She Was An Adventurer At Heart

We’re still in quarantine (approximately Day 852) which makes me realize more than ever how much I want to travel. Allow me to break down the 3 main ways I’ve determined that quarantine has officially stolen my sanity and possibly my dignity.

1

I’ve currently made it to Season 6 of 90 Day Fiancé…and ohhh boy. If you know, you know. If you don’t know, let me explain: One way or another an American decides to marry someone from another country seemingly without communication about the basic things two people preparing for marriage should discuss. If they are approved for a Fiancé Visa, they have 90 days to marry before it expires and they have to return to their home country. After reading that back, I realize how stable and reasonable I made that sound. I cannot emphasize this enough, the show is a dumpster fire. One lady is pregnant in Russia, another guy lives with his mom but the fiancé hates her. One lady quit her job, another guy cheats on his fiancé. And so on and so on. This is the part in the horror movie where the whole audience is screaming, “Don’t go in there.” Yet, I always do. This brings me to the point where I realize quarantine has stolen my sanity: Each time I start a new season, as soon as we’re introduced to this season’s Hunger Games tributes, I guess which ones will remain together even after the show ends. I call my sister roughly 5 times a night to scream about the insanity of the show, yet every night I come back for more.

I adopted a housefly and named him Buzz (short for Buzz Lightyear).

I have started fiftyeleven project around my house and have not completed any of them. In my defense, though, I didn’t realize every decision I made was going to create a domino effect for the rest of my home projects. Here’s where I started:

I purchased a new sofa that was much larger than the old one. It made the room feel dark and heavy, so I wanted something to brighten up the space. Time for a new sign above the sofa.

Round Over Edges

I already had a board that I wasn’t using that happened to be a good size for the living room. It’s 3 oak boards edged-glued together.
I had two options for finishing the sign:

1. Create a wood frame

2. Use the router to round over the edges.

I usually opt for the latter and I used my dad’s router (below).

Next, I cut out the letters for the sign. I wanted to determine the actual size of the board before I could figure out how big the words would be. I used 1/4” MDF from Home Depot.

I used Rustoleum Clean Metal Primer on all of the letters and the board - this gave me a nice base coat.

After letting the primer dry, I sand each piece (220-grit) and use Rustoleum Matte Black spray paint.
